A first look inside Uniworld’s Mekong Mystique, arriving in 2028

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has shared a first look inside its newest ship, the Mekong Mystique, and it’s every bit as charming as we hoped. Set to debut in 2028, the ship will join the Mekong Jewel on the Mekong River, expanding Uniworld’s presence in Vietnam and Cambodia.

It’s part of a three-ship expansion that Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge has called the brand’s largest fleet expansion to date.

A design that feels like a destination

Uniworld describes the Mystique’s style as a blend of classic Indochine influences and European elegance, with botanical motifs, rich wood, and antique-inspired furnishings throughout. Guests are welcomed into a lobby of warm wood floors and a sweeping spiral staircase.

“Every space has its own personality, with beautiful details that make the ship feel like a destination in itself,” Bettridge said.

Suites with old-world character

Suites feature arched floor-to-ceiling windows and ornate details. In the bathrooms, toile-style wallpaper and hand-painted botanical vanities are paired with gilded mirrors and brass fixtures, the kind of touches that make a suite feel more like a boutique hotel than a cabin.

A garden terrace on the river

The highlight may be up top. The two-story sundeck centers on an expansive floral-tiled pool surrounded by greenery, scalloped awnings, and decorative ironwork, all designed to evoke an open-air garden terrace. After a morning ashore, it’s easy to picture spending the afternoon here, watching life along the river drift by.

Where it will sail

Beginning in September 2028, the Mekong Mystique will sail Uniworld’s “Timeless Wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong” itinerary, pairing the culture, history, and cuisine of Southeast Asia with a calm, beautiful home base on the water.

Who will love it

The Mystique is a natural fit for travelers who care as much about the ship as the destination, and for river cruisers who have already explored Europe’s waterways and are ready for something new. It’s also a lovely way to experience Vietnam and Cambodia without the constant packing and unpacking of a land tour.

One final thought

September 2028 is still a ways off, but river ships have a limited number of suites, and debut sailings tend to book early. If the Mekong Mystique has caught your eye, we’d love to help you find the sailing that’s right for you.
